Owner: When can you start? Candidate: Mornings. Except I work mornings. I can't do afternoons. That's when I sleep. Owner: Nights? Candidate: Oh I don't work nights. That's a first-round interview doing its job. Better in ten minutes than in week two.

They sent the role Tuesday. I did the reach-out and the first interviews. Thursday they had the videos and who to meet. Those two days they were on jobs, not on Zoom. Most owners I talk to aren't bad at hiring. They're just busy. They can't sit on Zoom at 10 hoping someone shows, then do it again at 2. Somebody has to take that first round. That's the part I wanted to take. I like this work for a boring reason. Owners should be running the business. Not chasing people who were never going to show.
